JRoqSol. Singer. Songwriter. Actor. Most of all a survivor. Though only in his early twenties, the young performer has managed to continue to thrive and flourish despite the many obstacles that have presented themselves in his life. The pain and joy he has experienced is heard loud and clear through his music, an ear pleasing gumbo of rock, soul, and pop - a fusion he calls "RoqSol". With influences such as Aretha Franklin, Frank Stinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Kim Burrell just to name a few, JRoqSol has a sound of his own.
So the single is out! YEEEEEEAAAAAA BUDDY! I told ya’ll it would be different from “This Is Me”! “What Did You Do” is a true reflection of what my debut album will sound like- a gumbo of rock, soul, gospel, pop, and R&B. I’ll post the links below….of course after my rant of the day.
I’ve got less than 2 months to be done with my entire project……..let that marinate….Are you stressed? Great, I’m not either….I was born for this. This is the work that I love! Crafting music that speaks my heart and that you can relate to is my passion. I’m writing more honest and openly for the project and I hope you instantly catch on to what I’m trying to say. Well I’ve got work to do. Pray for me!

I know I’ve been real quiet lately….quite unusual for me since I actually like talking to ya’ll. I’ve been SUPERBUSY! I’m gonna try my best tho to make time to blog a lil more (Shut up Ki! :-) lol) I’ve been REALLY working on the album, getting the show together, and just studying to be a better artist. I’ve been working with some incredible producers for this album…dude when I tell you its gonna be BLAZING! I’m not saying it just because it’s my project either…with music this good I’d buy it if you were singing it! It’s a major mix of everything I love: pop, rock, soul, gospel, maybe even a wee bit of jazz! The show is gonna be a true representation of who I am! I LOVE TO PARTY! I don’t like wallflowers…. :-\ sorry…IT’S A HOUSE PARTY FOLKS! YOLO (so lame I kno lol). I’m just anticipating the future tho! Got some major announcements coming the night of the show so I hope to see everyone there!

I’m so excited…(I realize I use that statement a lot). Earlier this week, I rediscovered something I thought I lost years ago. Not to many people are familiar with that side of me, but I used to be a dancer. That’s right…me. I used to do full choreographed routines, the whole nine. I got embarrassed about it after I realized not to many dudes at that time accepted dance as a masculine thing to do. I retreated to just singing and after gaining a gang of weight, never thought I’d dance again. During my first show, I knew I needed some choreo during the show to kinds of liven things up a bit. The feel of constant rehearsal…feeling the old familiarity of soreness…all that awakened something that had lain dormant for years. The first show went great…but now I have a video coming up and I want to go full out. I’ve lost enough weight to finally move the way that I used to move. So until the video shoot…Imma be MJin in this peice lmao
ROQ OUT- J
I don’t have any words that can fully contain the happiness I have in this moment. Am I an international recording star with thousands of downloads going on right now…How the heck do I know? LOL! I won’t have a report until December! HA! But in all seriousness I have no idea of how to say thank you to everyone who pushed me to do this! I don’t know if they’ll ever comprehend how grateful I am that somebody said: JAY STOP SINGING BACKGROUND! YOU CAN DO THIS ON YOUR OWN!
I’m thankful…I’m appreciative…I’m…..I don’t know….I hope you hear the work and the heart of “This Is Me”. It’s the first of many more songs that will express who I am…
Love Ya’ll
ROQ OUT - J
I’m in a new place in life…its amazing how when you finally make a decision to pursue your goals that all HELL BREAKS LOOSE! You name it, I’ve had to face it within the past year. However the part that has been surprising to me, is that I haven’t given much though to it. I always say “Life happens”…and its the truth. I didn’t put two and two together until having a conversation with a member of my team. As soon as I decided to accept my destiny, things have moved in front of me expecting me to go back to the content of being in the background.
Well I’m a new dude…and a much stronger one than the one who started this journey. I say KEEP BRINGING IT! It’s doing nothing but making me better. This music industry is seriously cut throat, and I want to be ready.

I never know how to begin these things and I always think I’m rambling but here goes. I was asked the other day what’s the hardest part of being a new artist. I think my answer doesn’t surprise anyone that’s been in my shoes before or is currently in them. Getting new listeners to take a chance on you, is always the biggest hurdle. It’s not one that I wasn’t anticipating tho. I think the biggest surprise for me came from individuals I’ve helped and sowed into for years. I’ve pushed so many others and I just knew that when the time came that the favor would be reciprocated.
Imagine my surprise to discover a lot of people that claimed they were in my corner haven’t so much as visited my site lol. Am I complaining about these people? Nah…they’re teaching me a valuable lesson of WORK HARDER! For years while I was running from this, I was so comfortable pushing someone else’s product because it wasn’t my name at stake. Now that it is, I’m putting my everything into this. Each song that you hear from “This Is Me” and onward is a piece of my heart I’m giving to you. I believe in working smart, working hard, and persevering.
I want everyone to dance, relate to, and just simply enjoy my music. So later this month, I’m presenting “This Is Me”…my first official single as an artist. It really is me! I can’t wait for you to hear it.

I’ve been on the go so much! Not that I’m complaining tho, I love being busy. I’m one of those people that will keep going until my body tells me to slow down. I’ve been like that all my life. I hate standing still…patience is terrible…and to top it all off I never seem to be able to completely trust others to do their jobs when working for me lol. I ALWAYS have to have my hand in everything. Let me take some of that back…I do actually trust them because I asked them to work for me. It’s just that I’m such a perfectionist that I want to always keep my eye on everything.
For the past few months to the public eye I’ve been dormant. However to my small team, they know I’ve been designing my press materials, organizing everything, prepping for live performances, and loosing weight. Yep, I’m loosing more weight. Why? I’m in an industry where appearance is everything. At the moment I’m southern skinny. You know fit into size SMALL, 32 inch waist, weighing in at 175. My goal size? An additional 25 lbs of fat loss, and to gain 15 of it back in muscle. Don’t have long to do it, but I’m well on my way.
Working with a new producer…not exactly new to me, but relatively new to the public. This musical phenom is KEENAN SMITH (@SmithKeenan on twitter)…We’ve known each other for years and always talked about working together and finally did it this year! He’s going to produce the entire EP! Working with this guy has been incredible. Musically we’re so in sync! We work together on my music which allows me to really give you guys something that truly represents me!
Well gettin sleepy…so until next blog… RoqOut!
